In many communities such as ours, there are many people who live alone. In Hamilton Township, the Police Division is concerned about their citizens, and the Crime Prevention Unit has instituted a program known as "Operation Re-Assurance." This information is to ascertain if you would be interested in participating in this free of charge program, and to explain to you how it works.
The first requisite is that you must live alone, and you must have a telephone. You will be required to call the Hamilton Police Crime Prevention Unit at a special number to inform us that all is well. You must make this phone call to us each day Monday thru Sunday, between 8:00 A.M and 10:00 A.M.. If your call is not received by 10:30 A.M., the police will call you. If there is no answer the desk officer will dispatch a police car to your residence to see if everything is all right.
You will be required to notify the Crime Prevention Unit in the event that you are going away and give the dates you will not be a participant. Upon returning, you will have to call the Crime Prevention Unit to be placed back on the call list.
The intention of this program is to make sure that people living alone will have personal contact each day with someone to make sure all is well. We are interested in your welfare and are here to help.
If you are interested in participating in Operation Re-assurance call the Crime Prevention Unit at 581-4033
The Crime Prevention Unit is looking for volunteers to assist in manning the telephones on weekends. The time commitment is approximately 1 1/2 to 2 hours over one weekend about every other month.
If you think you may be able to help with this contact Jesse Thatcher at 581-4033.
