Thanks to Municipal Parks, Hamilton is a “Playful City USA” for 8th Consecutive Year

Thanks to its municipal parks and commitment to offering opportunities to play, Hamilton Township has retained its ‘Playful City USA’ status for the 8th consecutive year.  As such, Hamilton is one of just 257 communities across the nation -- and one of just 5 New Jersey towns -- to receive the honor.

The Playful City USA is a national recognition program that honors cities and towns across the country making their communities more playable. KaBOOM! is a national non-profit  organization that is dedicated to bringing balanced and active play into the daily lives of all kids, particularly those growing up in poverty in America.  KaBOOM! established the Playful City USA program – which is celebrating its tenth anniversary.

Hamilton Township once again received the Playful City USA honor thanks to efforts that included constructing new playgrounds or play spaces in CDBG (Community Development Block Grant) eligible neighborhoods, retrofitting existing play spaces to make them ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) accessible, constructing new play structures at neighborhood parks, renovating existing playgrounds and play spaces with new equipment while removing obsolete equipment and by continuing ongoing efforts to ensure that all neighborhoods across the community have a park, playground or recreational facility within walking distance.

“Our municipal parks remain an important part of our high quality of life in Hamilton and are an important recreational resource that benefits the children of our township.  Receiving this national recognition for an eighth consecutive year is a great honor for our community,” said Hamilton Township Mayor Kelly Yaede.

And although Hamilton’s school playgrounds are maintained by the Hamilton Public School District – a separate government – the Municipal Government has provided assistance to the School District to help reopen school playgrounds according to the School District’s schedule.

“We continue to work with the Public School District to assist their ongoing efforts to reopen school playgrounds, which provide children across our community even more opportunities to play,” explained Mayor Yaede.
