MAYOR CREATES TOWNSHIP’S COMMUNITY MUSICAL THEATRE GROUP

August 24, 2010--Hamilton Township Mayor John Bencivengo announced today, it will soon have its first ever “Community Musical Theatre Group” This group will consist of volunteer residents, both young and old, who possess a wide range of talent throughout Hamilton Township.  The Mayor’s Select Theatre and Musical group will consist of residents who dance, act, sing or are interested in getting involved and learning about performing arts.

The group will perform plays, monologues, musical numbers, and special productions throughout the year. One such musical will include the Live Holiday Singing Tree production during this year’s WinterWonderland.   Odd Act Theatre Group, a Hamilton Township based group is volunteering their time to work with the Mayor’s Community Musical Theatre group, to produce and direct various productions.

A series of auditions will be held for residents interested in joining the group. The first set of auditions will be held today, Tuesday, August 24 and tomorrow, Wednesday, August 25th at Steinert High School 6-8 pm.  Only Hamilton Township residents may audition.   A panel of judges will select residents to join this elite group.  Additional audition date and times will be posted on the township website within the next few days.

Residents interested in auditioning should be prepared to recite a monologue, sing a musical piece or dance. Individuals may bring their own piece or one will be provided at the time of the audition.  Professional performers and those with no previous experience or training are welcome to audition.

“This is a great opportunity for residents, both experienced and novice, to perform in a local community setting”, said Mayor John Bencivengo.  It is another extension of the many recreational venues Hamilton Township has to offer.

Residents interested in auditioning or with questions should call the Division of Recreation at 890-4028.  Proof of residency is required.
