Statement on the
Passing of Sr. Dorothy Payne, President of Trenton Catholic Academy, from Mayor
On behalf of the entire Hamilton
Township community, I would like to express our collective thoughts and prayers
for the family, friends and loved ones of Sr. Dorothy, as well as her fellow
Sisters of Saint Joseph and the entire Trenton Catholic Academy community.
For decades, Trenton Catholic
Academy – previously known as McCorristin Catholic High School and Saint
Anthony’s High School – has been an important part of our community, here in
Hamilton Township. Thanks to this
institution, generations of Hamiltonians and area residents were educated
inside its doors and grew both personally and spiritually.
Sr. Dorothy’s leadership role at
Trenton Catholic was important in terms of her service and dedication to
students that were educated there during her tenure, as well as in terms of continuing
the legacy of the high school that Monsignor Michael McCorristin spearheaded in
the early 1960’s. She was a tireless
advocate for what she believed was in the best interests of her students, their
school and its future.
While I recognize the sadness
felt by the Trenton Catholic Academy community, may they take solace in the
fact that Sr. Dorothy is now with God, who she faithfully served during her
life, and that, now, Trenton Catholic has another tireless advocate for their
school in heaven.
