Hamilton Mayor Jeff Martin Announces
Chief of Staff and Acting CFO
Hamilton Township Mayor Jeff Martin has selected a Chief of Staff and Acting Chief Financial Officer to join his administration.
Mayor Martin has selected Ulrich “Al” Steinberg as Acting Chief Financial Officer. Steinberg comes to Hamilton Township with over 30 years’ experience in several aspects of New Jersey government finance.
Steinberg has served as either CFO or financial consultant to over a dozen New Jersey municipalities, including the cities of Clifton and Plainfield. From 1991 to 2001, he served as the Director of New Jersey’s Division of Local Government Services under then Governor Whitman’s administration. He received his undergraduate degrees in accounting, business administration and economics from William Paterson University and a master’s degree in accounting from Rutgers University.
At Tuesday’s meeting, the Council approved Steinberg for the temporary post. “There were some decisions made last year that didn’t provide for the long term,” Steinberg said at the Council meeting. “Despite the challenge, I look forward to serving the residents of Hamilton Township by helping this new administration prepare a fiscally responsible 2020 budget.”
For his Chief of Staff, Mayor Martin has selected Bianca Jerez, an experienced New Jersey public policy analyst. Most recently, Jerez served as a Policy Analyst for the State Legislature. Prior to her time at the State Legislature, Jerez worked in several roles in New Jersey politics, including as Political Director with the NJ Democratic Assembly Campaign Committee (DACC). She is a graduate of Rider University.
One of the many roles the Chief of Staff will be responsible for includes supervising the Township’s call center, HAMSTAT. The HAMSTAT call center provides Hamilton Township residents with the critically important task of centralizing the concerns of residents so that Mayor Martin can take swift action to address their needs.
"I am pleased to have both Al and Bianca as part of my team, and look forward to working with them,” says Mayor Martin. “These are two outstanding individuals with the experience, skills, and drive to serve the resident of Hamilton Township.”
