Hamilton Township Named “Citizen Engaged Community”;   1 of 16 Local Governments Across Nation to be Recognized

Hamilton Township’s commitment to engaging citizens through a variety of communication systems, web-based and mobile technology has led the municipality to be recognized as 1 of 16 local governments across the country to be named a “Citizen Engaged Community” by a national technology organization serving cities and counties.

Recently, the Public Technology Institute, an organization that supports local government executives and elected officials through research, education, consulting services, and national recognition programs, designated 16 “Citizen-Engaged Communities” for 2012-2014.   Hamilton Township was recognized along with other, prominent cities and counties that include New York City, Philadelphia, San Francisco, the city and county of Denver, Colorado and Miami-Dade County, Florida, among others.

“We continuously strive to make it easier for residents to communicate with our local government, through a variety of social media outlets, a smart phone app, our Township website, E-mail Newsletters and our HamStat Call Center,” said Hamilton Township Mayor Kelly A. Yaede.  “This is an outstanding recognition, which highlights our desire to communicate openly and transparently with the residents of our community.”

According to the Public Technology Institute, its Citizen-Engaged Communities designation program “challenges local governments to achieve high standards in citizen participation, seamless service delivery and democratic accountability by making access to government services and information available through multiple channels: web, civic media, interactive voice response, and 311 call centers.”

Just recently, Hamilton Township created an official Twitter account, which joins its existing Facebook account as another social media tool for residents to use to keep informed.

“Whether someone follows us on Facebook or Twitter, signs up to receive our free E-mail Newsletters, or simply calls our HamStat Call Center, our government is here to serve all of our residents and make getting information or assistance as easy as possible,” said Hamilton Township Mayor Kelly A. Yaede.
