Hamilton Township High School Juniors and Seniors who are planning to continue their education beyond high school have an opportunity to win up to $1000 towards college through a state-wide scholarship competition.
Mayor Kelly A. Yaede is announcing the New Jersey State League of Municipalities’ Louis Bay 2nd Future Municipal Leader Scholarship Competition, which seeks to promote the virtues of elected and volunteer members of local government. The New Jersey League of Municipalities is a non-partisan, voluntary association, which serves and represents all of New Jersey’s 565 municipalities by working to help the cities and towns of our state to better govern themselves.
Hamilton high school juniors and seniors (including students who live in Hamilton and attend a high school outside of the Township – i.e. a private school) that wish to participate in the contest are asked to write a 500-word essay focusing on the theme of “What My Mayor and Governing Body Do Best.” The essay should be based upon the student’s perceptions or experiences with Hamilton Township government and should consider the public contributions of their Mayor and governing body.
From the essay submissions, one Hamilton Township student’s essay will be chosen by a judging committee to advance to the state semi-finalist round, where the League of Municipalities’ Scholarship Committee will select 3 winners. Each state-wide winner will receive a $1000 scholarship.
“I hope that many of our community’s high school juniors and seniors will take full advantage of the Louis Bay 2nd Future Municipal Leaders Scholarship Competition. Just two years ago, a Hamilton student was one of the three statewide winners of this scholarship competition and earned a $1,000 scholarship. This year, I am hoping that another one of our talented high school students achieve this great feat,” says Mayor Kelly A. Yaede.
Essays from Hamilton Township students, including scholarship application forms that have been sent to local high schools, must be delivered to the Hamilton Township Municipal Building; Office of Mayor Kelly A. Yaede located at 2090 Greenwood Avenue; Hamilton, NJ 08609, by close of the business day on Friday, March 15, 2013. Also, application forms, which must be filled out and accompany the essay submission, as well as contest directions will be available on the Township website, under the “News” section.
