Hamilton Township Mayor Kelly Yaede Presents 2013 CY Budget with No Municipal Tax Increase and Reduced Spending

Today, Hamilton Township Mayor Kelly A. Yaede presented her 2013 CY Budget for Hamilton Township, highlighted by the fact that the budget will not increase municipal taxes and will reduce spending over prior years’ budgets.

“When I became Mayor a few months ago I said that one of my most important priorities was to delve into the budget process and prepare a budget that is responsible and fiscally sound.  I also wanted to prepare a budget that kept in mind two of my important beliefs: first, the taxpayers of Hamilton Township have paid enough; second, over the last several years families throughout Hamilton Township, and all across America, have had to reduce their household spending and Hamilton Township must do the same,” said Mayor Yaede.  With that said, I am pleased to announce that the 2013 CY Budget I am presenting today contains no municipal tax increase and reduces spending over the 2012 CY Budget by almost $1.2 million.  Additionally, I am pleased to announce that Hamilton’s sewer rate will also remain flat.”

The ability to maintain a stable tax rate, as Hamilton Township has done over the last several years, is difficult in these economic times and stands in stark contrast to the Hamilton Township School District and Mercer County, both of which have proposed tax increases that will affect Hamilton’s taxpayers.  Many of Hamilton Township’s neighboring municipalities have also proposed tax increases.

“At a time when homeowners and taxpayers are struggling to pay their bills it is not right for government to continue to spend as if there is an infinite amount of money,” Mayor Yaede commented.  “We must do our part and tighten our belts as many Hamiltonians have done.  Although we have many expenses that we must pay, this budget eliminates unnecessary expenses while allowing us to continue to deliver the exceptional services Hamilton’s taxpayers have come to expect, all without a tax increase.”

“The ability to decrease spending and maintain a stable tax rate is a testament to the directors and employees of Hamilton Township, who work tirelessly every day to find greater efficiencies to reduce costs while maintaining the same level of services.  Preparing this 2013 CY Budget is a team effort and I commend everyone involved for a job well done,” Mayor Yaede concluded.
