Hamilton Township Mayor Kelly Yaede to Name New Public Works Director
Today, Hamilton Township Mayor Kelly A. Yaede announced that she will be naming David Carothers as the new director of the Hamilton Township Department of Public Works following the retirement of current director Frank Ragazzo, effective Friday, March 29, 2013.
“When I became Mayor this past November Mr. Ragazzo told me that he was planning to retire as director of Public Works,” said Mayor Yaede. “However, upon my request, he agreed to remain in his position throughout the winter season. Mr. Ragazzo has done a commendable job as Public Works director and I thank him for his service to the residents of Hamilton Township.”
“I am honored to have been able to serve as the director of Public Works and to have helped make Hamilton Township a better place,” Ragazzo said. “However, the time has come for me to begin to enjoy my retirement. I wish all the best to Dave as he takes the reins as director. Having worked side-by-side with him over the last couple of years, I have no doubt that he is ready for the task at hand and will do an outstanding job.”
Ragazzo has served as Public Works director for approximately the past 2 years. During his tenure as director Ragazzo oversaw the paving of 29 streets by Public Works’ crews and the cleanup from hurricanes Irene and Sandy. His soon-to-be appointed successor, David Carothers, is a long-time employee of Hamilton Township, beginning his employment as a laborer and working his way up through the ranks in the Department of Public Works to his current position of Coordinator of Safety Programs. He also currently serves as Hamilton Township’s Emergency Management Coordinator. Carothers will serve as acting director of Public Works until his appointment is considered and approved by the Hamilton Township Council.
“I am certainly humbled by the vote of confidence placed in me by Mayor Yaede in appointing me to be director of Public Works,” Carothers stated. “It is a demanding job and I enjoyed my time working with Frank, but I am ready to take on the challenge. I have been committed to serving the people of Hamilton Township for over 10 years and I look forward to continuing that commitment in this new role.”
“In looking for someone to take over as Public Works director we are fortunate in Hamilton Township to have an extremely qualified individual right within our ranks,” Mayor Yaede commented. “Having served in several capacities in the Department of Public Works, Dave Carothers intimately knows the department and the township. I have no doubt that he can step right in and take the helm of the department. Mr. Carothers is the perfect choice to take over as Public Works director and I look forward to working with him in maintaining and improving the level of service provided by the Department of Public Works to our residents,” Mayor Yaede concluded.
