Mayor Yaede Hosts Meeting of Neighboring Municipalities with Trenton Water Works to Discuss Recent Water Quality Reports; Trenton Water Works Improving Service and Communication

This week, Hamilton Township Mayor Kelly Yaede hosted a meeting of neighboring municipalities with representatives of Trenton Water Works to discuss recent reports of elevated contaminant levels in TWW’s system and to find out what actions TWW is taking to correct the issue.

“Over the last several weeks residents of not only Hamilton Township, but also Ewing, Hopewell and Lawrence, have been reading media reports concerning elevated levels of a contaminant in the Trenton Water Works system,” said Mayor Yaede.  “In light of this continuing issue I thought it was important to be proactive and arrange a meeting of representatives of all of the affected towns so that we could hear first-hand from Trenton Water what actions they are taking to correct the issue.  I also thought it was important to discuss how we could improve Trenton Water Works’ communication not only with municipal officials, but also with residents directly.”

The meeting hosted by Mayor Yaede was held at the Hamilton Township Municipal Building and was attended by municipal officials from Ewing, Hamilton, Hopewell and Lawrence.  Each of these municipalities is serviced by Trenton Water Works.  Representatives of Trenton Water Works made a presentation to the officials in attendance regarding the recent water quality issue, even though it does not pose any immediate health threat, and laid out a plan to correct the issue and achieve its ultimate goal of constant compliance with all applicable regulations.  TWW’s plan includes the flushing of its systems, controlling the levels of disinfectants used to treat the water, and cleaning the lines more frequently.  TWW also committed to establishing a new phone system that would provide information and responses to customers 24 hours per day, 7 days per week.

“Although the recent news reports about Trenton Water Works raised the concern of many people throughout Hamilton Township and neighboring communities, I am happy that Trenton Water Works accepted my invitation to sit down and discuss these important issues in order to alleviate those concerns in the present and into the future,” Mayor Yaede commented.  “This sign of increasing cooperation between Trenton Water Works and the towns it serves instills a greater degree of confidence that should any issue arise in the future, the proper officials will be notified promptly so that the issue can be dealt with immediately and the residents of Hamilton Township can be ensured that their water is safe,” Yaede concluded.
