Volunteer Program

A Dog with the Slogan, You Don't Have to Take Me Home to HelpThank you for your interest in volunteering with us! Your service is important to the daily care and mental health of our animals. By volunteering with us, you are joining a wonderful team that help us with walking and training dogs, socializing cats and showcasing adoptable animals at off-site events!

You must be at least 18 years old to volunteer for Hamilton Township Animal Shelter.

How do you begin the process of becoming a volunteer?

  1. Attend a volunteer orientation. Email our shelter manager for the next available date.
  2. Complete the Volunteer Application Packet (PDF) in its entirety and bring with you to orientation.
  3. Further instructions:
    • Dog volunteers: Once you have attended an orientation and the shelter management has received your completed application packet, you will need to attend a Dog Behavior/Handling class with the trainer. Once the class is completed, you will sign up for an in-person, hands-on Dog Handling Skills session with our trainer.
    • Cat only volunteers: You may begin volunteering once you receive your confirmation email and PIN from the shelter manager.

Please review the Volunteer Handbook (PDF) to get an understanding of guidelines, policies, and general volunteer information.
