The Township Council is the legislative body of Hamilton Township.
Hamilton's Mayor-Council form of government calls for the at-large election of five Township Council members, who at its annual organization meeting, elects a president and vice-president to serve for a one-year term each.
The Council represents the public and develops and adopts policies, addresses public issues, formulate township policy through motion, resolutions and ordinances which reflect the needs of the public, and maintains a working knowledge of intergovernmental issues and how they will affect Hamilton Township.

Pursuant to the new emergency rules promulgated by the Director of Local Government Services in the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs, in lieu of commenting publicly at the meeting either in person or telephonically, public comments may be submitted through electronic email to EGore@HamiltonNJ.com or written letter to Township Clerk, Township of Hamilton, 2090 Greenwood Avenue, Room 210, Hamilton, NJ 08609 which must be received no later than 4:00 pm (EST) the day prior to the meeting. Such comments will be read aloud and addressed during the public meeting in a manner that is audible to all meeting participants and the public listening. The Governing Body may pass over duplicate written comments; however, each duplicative comment shall be noted for the record with the content summarized.
A time limit on public comments has been established as 4 minutes (Round 1) and 2 minutes (Round 2). If any members of the public wish to speak, they shall be required to state their name and street address prior to speaking on the record. This time limit shall apply to the reading of written comments submitted as described above.
All participants shall adhere to the standards of conduct. If a member of the public becomes disruptive during the in-person/remote public meeting, including during any period for public comment, the disruptive individual(s) shall be muted or kept on mute, or directed to mute or keep on mute, the disruptive member of the public and warn that continued disruption may result in their being prevented from speaking or removed from the remote public meeting at the direction of the Council President. Disruptive conduct includes inappropriate behaviors such as, but not limited to, shouting, interruption, and use of profanity.
