[ARCHIVED] Hamilton Township and School District Celebrate Groundbreaking Ceremony for New Municipal Building

DSC_0126Yesterday, on Wednesday, October 16, 2024, Hamilton Township and the Hamilton Township School District celebrated a momentous occasion of a groundbreaking ceremony for the new municipal building. The new facility, designed by the renowned Spiezle Architectural Group and constructed by EPIC, is expected to be ready for occupancy by the Township and the School District in the Fall of 2026.

Employees, Mercer County Improvement Authority members, the local community, and the Board of Education were invited to join the festivities, marking a significant milestone for all. The new municipal building, a result of the community's collective efforts, represents an effort to provide modern, efficient, and accessible facilities for the local government and the school district.

"We are thrilled to finally embark on this exciting project that will benefit the Hamilton community," said Mayor Jeff Martin. "As mentioned before, the town has been exploring the construction of a new Municipal Building since the 1980s under then-Mayor Rafferty. Updating two facilities at once, under budget and together, makes it even better. The new municipal building will enhance our operational capabilities and serve as a hub for community engagement and collaboration."DSC_0055

In late 2020, Hamilton Township acquired the long-vacant property at 1750 Whitehorse-Mercerville Road. The property, known to have been the former home of ShopRite, had been vacant for over 15 years. Looking to redevelop the property for public use, the Township had requested the community to provide input for the site. While residents offered many great ideas, the suggestion of a joint municipal complex stood out. The plan for a municipal complex would continue to foster decades of shared services to further the concept that the Township and District serve to benefit the Township and school communities and each other.

The groundbreaking ceremony was a testament to the spirit of unity, progress, and anticipation for the long-awaited goals of Hamilton leaders, both past and present. As construction commences, the Township is filled with excitement for the positive impact the new municipal building will have on the community for generations to come.
