[ARCHIVED] The Children’s Home Society of NJ Opens New Center in Hamilton

Children's Home Society of NJ Early Childhood Center Opening

Hamilton Township Mayor Jeff Martin along with First Lady Tammy Murphy and Trenton Mayor Reed Gusciora were present for a ribbon cutting and dedication ceremony of The Children’s Home Society of New Jersey’s  (CHSofNJ) Early Childhood Center.

The Early Childhood Center, located at 1435 Liberty Street in Hamilton will house the organization’s Early Head Start and Head Start programs. It will consist of five infant classrooms and five toddler classrooms, indoor play space, outdoor playground, and a commercial-grade kitchen to prepare nutritious meals to benefit families in the Greater Trenton and Hamilton areas. The Center was formerly dedicated as The Vivian B. Shapiro, MSW, PHD Early Childhood Center, after the late Dr. Vivian Shapiro, a former Board of Trustee of the Children’s Home Society and pioneer in Early Childhood Learning.

The Vivian B. Shapiro, MSW, PHD Early Childhood Center will formerly this Summer, filling gaps in education and enrichment for infants and toddlers from lower-income households in Mercer County. “This site represents the Board’s largest commitment to the expansion of meeting this critical need for Early Head Start services for expectant mothers and children birth to 3 years of age,” said Isaac Dorsey, Executive Director of CHSofNJ.

“The early childhood learning opportunities we are providing through Head Start would not have been possible without the advocacy and expertise of our former Trustee, Dr. Vivian Shapiro,” said CHSofNJ CEO and Princeton resident Donna Pressma.

The Children’s Home Society of New Jersey was founded in 1894 with a mission to save children’s lives and build healthy families. They achieve this mission through a continuum of supportive and preventative programs and services designed to protect abused or neglected infants and children; provide education and resources to strengthen and empower families; and help every child have a stable, permanent, and loving home.

“I thank First Lady Tammy Murphy for joining us as she continues to advocate for healthy New Jersey families. I’m glad to see Mayor Gusciora join us as well, as the Children’s Home Society Head Start programs are critical for low-income families and children in the most impactful time of their lives and have proven to have immediate and lasting effects across multiple generations,” stated Mayor Jeff Martin. “The Liberty Street facility is a great location to help families in Hamilton, Trenton, and the greater Mercer County region. We welcome them to our community and thank them for their dedication to our residents.”
